The Queen Mary Hotel is located approximately 20 miles south of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and is easily reached by taxi or Uber/Lyft. LAX is a hub for a many domestic and international carriers, with direct intercontinental flights available from a number of airports in Asia/Australia, Europe and South America (and yes, South America is a different continent than North America, whatever the International Olympic Committee might think).
One can take public transit to downtown Long Beach from LAX, although considerable patience is required when when using public transportation in southern California. The Metro Shuttle/Green Line Station Shuttle from the LAX terminals to Aviation Station where you will get on the C line (formerly called Green line). Take the C line towards Norwalk. Change at Willowbrook for the A line (formerly called the Blue line) towards Long Beach. From the Long Beach Station, it is best to take a Lyft/Uber to the Queen Mary. The trip will take about 1.5 hours in total. You will need a TAP card to ride the Metro, which can be bought at the Aviation Metro station. The Metro runs approximately from 5:00 am to just before midnight.
Getting around:
The most common transportation option in Southern California is by car since many tourist attractions are not easily reached by public transportation. That said, you can reach downtown Los Angeles from Long Beach using the Metro on the A line (formerly called the blue line). The two main transportation hubs in downtown LA are Metro Center/7th St. and Union Station. From there, you can walk or take a short metro connection to several museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Geffen Center and the Broad, or walk to other attractions such as Little Tokyo, Walt Disney Concert Hall and many others.
To use public transport, you need a TAP card, which can be purchased in many convenience stores. See a list of TAP card purchase locations.
Keep in mind, traffic in the greater Los Angeles area is usually very bad, so riding the Metro may be just as quick as driving. Going to LA by metro from Long Beach takes about 90 minutes, compared to 35-75 min by car. However, we caution against using the Metro late at night since public safety is an ongoing concern, especially after dark.
